    Nicknamed the Military Capital of the American Revolution

    • Because the city played a pivotal role in the war for independence from Great Britain, Morristown is often referred to as the “military capital of the American Revolution”.
    • This history is visible today in many locations throughout town that collectively make up the Morristown National Historical Park.

    George Washington Slept Here

    • The nation’s first president came to Morristown in 1773 – two years before the start of the Revolutionary War. In 1777, General Washington had his war headquarters in Jacob Arnold’s Tavern located at the Morristown Green in the center of town.
    • During Washington’s second stay in early 1780, he declared St. Patrick’s Day a holiday for honoring his many Irish troops.

    Home of the Oldest Guide Dog School in the World

    • Founded by Frank Morris – a blind man from Nashville
    • The Seeing Eye graduated its first class in 1929
